RESEARCH INTERESTS
Polymer Composites. Novel engineering plastic composites which involve polymer blends or mixtures with various fibers, inorganic particles, nano-particles and other modifying fillers are being investigated. The correlation between microstructure, property and performance, including the effects of various fillers, are also being studied. His focus is on the tribological properties of polymer composites under harsh conditions, such as high or low temperature, sand-dust, corrosive environments, etc. Such tribo-materials have been widely used in solid lubrication, dynamic sealing, anticorrosive components, marine machine, aeronautical and astronautical applications.
Functional Coatings. Various coatings with applied functions, such as drag reduction, low surface energy, hydrophobic or hydrophilic surface, surface lubrication, wear resistant and so on, are being investigated. His research interests include coating ingredients, preparation techniques, and surface morphologies. Areas of application are shipping, aquatic sports, surface protection of equipment, surface decoration, etc.
Tribological Mechanism. Tribological mechanisms of various tribo-materials, such as polymers, metals, ceramics, organic & inorganic composites, are being investigated under different conditions. The interrelationship between microstructures and tribological properties, and structural designs of tribo-materials are included. The researches on tribological mechanism is to find out tribological regulations, collect experimental data, explore origins of wear and summarize influencing factors on friction & wear of materials.
Tribological Testing Technique. The developments of new type tribometers and simulations of tribological environment, are being investigated. It includes reproducing various friction conditions in the lab, such as rotating, fretting, oscillating, sand dust, at high or low temperature, at high pressure, and different ambient mediums. The direct purpose is to service to industry.
